Philanthropy
Supporting the CommunitySince our founding, our firm’s owners and executive management have recognized that we do not simply work where we have offices—we live, play and realize personal hopes and dreams here also. Just as we are committed to excellence in our professional services, it is ingrained in our corporate culture to create lasting and positive impacts in the communities in which we do business. We believe that the spirits of team work and giving are intricately linked – one cannot flourish in an environment lacking the other. Thus, corporate social responsibility, or, as we like to say, simply doing the right thing, is as much part of our firm’s bedrock as extreme customer service. From chairing major events that raise desperately needed monies for charitable causes to building a new playground at a local recovery facility, staff throughout our organization lend a helping hand. In addition to supporting numerous local, national and international charities, our staff (joined very often our subconsultants and industry partners) follow the example set by our firm’s leadership and routinely volunteer their time to support local endeavors:
Acting OutLondon, England: As part of our company’s Green Day festivities, our London office created a carnival at one of its job sites. Staff created games and challenges made from items found at the site. The entire project team (owner, architect, engineer, suppliers and STI) participated in contests throughout the day. The event raised £406.40 (and a lot of smiles and good laughs). All proceeds were donated to Trees for Cities, a local London charity that plants and maintains trees in the London inner city.New York, NY: For the 19th consecutive year, staff from Structure Tone, Pavarini NE and Pavarini McGovern participated in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge. The Challenge is a 3.5-mile run/walk road race. It is held in cities throughout the world and benefits various charitable and philanthropic endeavors. NYC’s Corporate Challenge benefits the Central Park Conservancy West Orange, NJ: Members of our Lyndhurst Spirit Committee, along with several volunteers, donated expertise, time and resources to improve the United Way's Boys and Girls Club of Essex County facility. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Washington, DC: A team of Washington, DC volunteers participated in the District of Columbia Building Industry Association (DCBIA) Community Improvement Day. We were responsible for creating the new entry feature and promenade. Over 30 staff and staff-family members participated, as well as two subcontracting friends - Walmex and Anning Johnson. Lyndhurst, NJ: A group of Lyndhurst employees participated on behalf of the American Cancer Society in the sixth annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk in Bergen County. The team walked to raise money to support research and treatment so that mothers, sisters, co-workers and friends may never be afflicted. The group also walked in remembrance of co-workers (or family members) who have survived the battle and in loving memory for those we have lost. Dallas, TX: Cause-oriented, and intrepid, staff in our Dallas office participated in the Breast Cancer 3-Day® event to raise money for awareness, a cure, and patient support. The walk began with a ceremony at Southfork Ranch and ended at Southern Methodist University. Proceeds for the event went to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Ft. Lauderdale, FL: The community spirit is thriving today at Roosevelt Middle School, where the company is constructing a classroom addition, and where Pavarini launched a mentoring program for the students. As part of the mentoring program, students get involved in actual construction activities of the classroom addition project working with Pavarini mentors who teach the protégé students various aspects of the construction and engineering process under real life conditions. Boston, MA: Boston Office volunteers help serve lunch at the St. Francis House Shelter. Our team is responsible for preparing and serving lunch the second and fourth Tuesday of every month throughout 2009. St. Francis House is the largest day shelter in New England. Located in the heart of downtown Boston, it serves over 800 poor and homeless men and women a day, 365 days a year. Washington, DC: A few Washington, DC staff recently assisted Miriam's Kitchen by volunteering for the Breakfast Program. This program serves breakfast to approximately 200-250 homeless in the Washington, DC area. Food for the breakfast program is provided by local farmers markets and grocery stores and includes fresh ingredients such as grains, fruits and vegetables. New York, NY: Structure Tone once again teamed with United Way of New York for its annual Gridiron Gala honoring Community Quarterbacks Sam Palmisano, chairman and CEO of IBM Corporation and David Turner, CFO markets division, Thomson Reuters and Hometown Heroes D’Brickashaw Ferguson of the New York Jets and Eli Manning of the New York. Funds raised through the Gridiron Gala support the United Way of New York City whose programs improve the lives of vulnerable children in all five boroughs. Boston, MA: Our Boston office "accepted the challenge" and a team of 11 employees biked 175 miles over one weekend to help create a world free of Multiple Sclerosis. With approximately 400,000 people living with MS and 200 more people diagnosed every week, this was our way of being able to give new hope to those affected by this disease. Washington, DC: Our Washington DC office was delighted to be able to help the Wendt Center for Loss in Healing. The Wendt Center helps to address grief in adults and children by providing mental health services, training and education to those impacted by illness, loss and bereavement. Structure Tone staff donated over 30 cuddly teddy bears, and some additional gift certificates, to help bring comfort to the hundreds of children that come to the Wendt Center each year for assistance dealing with loss and illness. Princeton & Lyndhurst, NJ: Our NJ office joined forces and ran a toy drive to support The Valarie Fund, the largest network in NJ of healthcare facilities for children with cancer or blood disorders. Toys are valuable tools in a child’s recovery, as well as their general growth and development. Thanks to the tremendous response from our employees, we were able to deliver a vehicle full of toys, as well as hundreds of dollars in gift cards. It truly was better to give than receive. New York, NY: For more than a decade Structure Tone has chaired the Friends of Saint Dominic’s annual dinner gala. St. Dominic’s Home provides foster boarding homes, adoption, special needs education and community-based services and residences for people with mental illness or developmental disabilities in Bronx, Rockland and Westchester Counties. Peter Thomassen, president, New York District Council of Carpenters and Louis Milo were dinner honorees. Dallas, TX: They say "everything is bigger in Texas," and that includes the giving spirit at Structure Tone Southwest. Our Dallas staff has a long tradition of supporting charity organizations to help those in need in the Dallas area. Over the past five years, Structure Tone Southwest has consistently supported Make-A-Wish Foundation. One of our donations enabled a terminally ill child to experience his wish of going to Disneyland. Another worthy cause long supported by our Dallas office is Camp John Marc, an organization that provides camping experiences for children with chronic illnesses or physical disabilities. And, Special Olympics is also an organization near and dear to Structure Tone Southwest’s (big) heart.
